COMING HOME

(MUSEUM OF FORGOTTEN FUN Exhibit 2026)

APRIL 2026

A Performative Slumber Party

You have been invited to a slumber party.

You don’t need to bring anything. You don’t need to know anyone. You just need to show up at the door and someone will answer.

Coming Home is an immersive theater installation for groups of twelve. There is no stage. There is no audience. There are only cousins and now… you are one of them. Over the course of seventy-five minutes, three performers will welcome you back to something you may not have known you missed: the particular warmth of being expected somewhere, of a door opening before you knock, of someone fixing your hair without asking.

Overall Project Summary:

The year is 3026 and we have a very important historical question: What did people in San Francisco do for fun in the 2020s? Using evidence gleaned from ancient social media photos and video, our curators at the Museum of Forgotten Fun attempt to re-enact ceremonies of conviviality to explore what 2020s people did for fun. Why did people in the 2020s take so many pictures of themselves? Or use so many googly eyes? Or dress up as Hunky Jesus or Santa Claus? What was the “hole” party? Why did people celebrate Saint Stupid or Emperor Norton? Exhibits in the Museum of Forgotten Fun will speculate on answers to these puzzling questions by re-enacting elements of what was once called “fun” in 2020s San Francisco.
